I don’t know about you, but my least favorite night of the week is Sunday. Yikes! Whoever invented the five day work week must not have enjoyed staying at home with family. So what’s a working mom to do to unwind at the end of a busy weekend? How about mixing a bentonite clay mask with some essential oils? It is so easy you will never want to buy a pre-made mask once you try this! What makes this mask… Read more »
This week has been particularly hectic–boy, am I frazzled and in dire need of relaxing music. So far this week, it’s been jury duty (and getting selected for a high profile case), field trips, candidate interviews (for my boss’s replacement), and flying to Mars (ok, just kidding on the last one). Need I say more? Oh, wait, being short-staffed at work the past two weeks! After a stressful day, no, make that week, I need to reclaim my zen with… Read more »
Guest blogger Pamela Moffatt reflects on finding inner peace through meditation. “Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart,” wrote one of my favorite authors, Unknown. Someone unknown, like me, thought about peace while their toddler screamed in the checkout line? Or when the Social Security officer they had waited hours to see… Read more »
Are you a recovering Type A personality (like myself) perpetually in search of zen? If so, you might consider aromatherapy. Two years ago, I realized my health was in jeopardy when my family doctor gave me an Rx for what he characterized as ‘anxiety attacks.’ Just the thought of taking prescription drugs to manage my stress was stressing me out!! Taxing Work (Pun Intended) After a taxing day at work (oh, the irony….I worked for Bloomberg BNA’s International Tax unit),… Read more »
[Note: This post may include affiliate links.] I love blogging, but I’ll be honest —it can be hair-raising!! For starters, I found it difficult to identify my niche and find my voice. So many ideas, so little time!! Although I consider myself to be relatively tech-savvy — heck, I know how to read a ‘document type definition’ (.dtd) and code in SGML, the precursor to HTML–it can still be challenging to keep up with the latest trends, especially with the… Read more »
How creating art provides respite from life’s daily chaos.
Lessons learned after relocating from a (sub)urban area (Washington, DC metro area) to small (college) town life in central Pennsylvania.
Guest blogger Stephanie Keltner shares the health benefits of listening to relaxing music. For many of us, a day wouldn’t be complete without music. Whether you wake up to it, pass time at work listening to it, or even play a soothing song or two for your sleeping baby, music plays a role in nearly every part of our waking lives. And whether you like Mozart and the classics, alternative, jazz, acoustic or anything in between, the benefits for… Read more »
Last weekend, thanks to a Groupon offer, I tried out Bethesda Salt Cave, touted as the first and only salt cave in the mid-Atlantic state of Maryland. I opted for the special deal for two sessions and thankfully had a willing volunteer, my 12 year old son, who tagged along for the halotherapy experience. The salt cave consists of chunks of imported Himalayan pink salt adorning the walls, with ground salt on the floor (think ‘beach’ but instead of sand… Read more »
